BRADFORD Bulls Women are hoping to bring some much-needed cheer to the club on Sunday by winning the Challenge Cup.

While it has been another season of struggle for their male counterparts at Odsal, the women have been excelling themselves and currently remain unbeaten this campaign.

Victory over Featherstone Rovers in the final at Heworth ARLFC's ground in York (3pm) would see them lift the trophy for the first time.

Bradford's cup run started with a 92-1 thrashing of The Army and was followed by a 64-0 hiding of Castleford Tigers.

They then beat holders Thatto Heath-St Helens 22-10 in the semi-final, led by an inspired performance by Savannah Andrade, who scored two tries, with Beth Sutcliffe and Amy Hardcastle both bagging a try each.

Under head coach Mark Prescott, Bulls go into Sunday's show-piece full of confidence, having last week beaten Thatto Heath again 32-26 in their Women's Super League opener. That made it three wins this season over a side who had previously not lost since 2015.

Speaking to Bulls TV, Sutcliffe said: "We've had a really good preparation. Everyone has been training really hard.

"We have a good ethos in training and once you start that winning streak it can breed itself. We are on a good run at the moment and we hope it continues on Sunday."

The back row/loose forward would love to get her hands on the trophy again, having lifted it before with Thatto.

She said: "It would be fantastic, particularly for Bradford, who have had a few close shaves over the years and not won the cup. I've won it before with Thatto Heath so it would be nice to do it in my first year with Bradford.

"I'm looking forward to hopefully contributing to that. It would be a great win for the girls and also for Mark."

Sutcliffe believes Bulls – who had nine of their stars called up to the England Women's squad for their tour to France last month – must capitalise on their pace against Featherstone, whose big strength lies with their forwards.
