TEENAGER Reiss Butterworth has told Bulls coach Geoff Toovey: I'm ready when you need me again.

The 18-year-old is still buzzing from making his first senior start in the 20-18 loss at Halifax.

Butterworth was honest enough to admit that there were errors in his performance but hopes he did enough to show Toovey that he can be trusted for another Championship chance when called upon.

He said: "It's a great opportunity. As a young lad, you want to perform in the under-19s and then be ready to make that next step up when the chance comes.

"You just want to go out and perform to the best of your ability. I thought I had a good dig. I made some silly errors but I'll try to work on that.

"It's just learning the game. I'm still young and I'll try to take on board everything I get told by Geoff and (Leigh) Beattie and put that into next week, whether that's with the first team or the under-19s."

Jordan Lilley's recall by Leeds Rhinos thrust Butterworth into the scrum-half role in a pairing with Joe Keyes and he felt the youthful partnership worked well against physical opposition.

He said: "We'd trained Wednesday and Thursday and were constantly doing attacking structure. By the time we went into the game, it was down to instinct. Everything felt like second nature.

"You can't help it if people are called back by clubs. So if you get called up, you have to do your best – and hopefully that's what I did."

Butterworth admitted he was a bag of nerves in the build-up to Sunday's game but an early possession helped to calm him down.

He said: "It was a surreal feeling knowing I was starting for the first team and I was nervous all day. I couldn't eat my breakfast.

"But as soon as I got out there, I could feel the buzz and I tried to build and create off that.

"As soon as I made my first tackle and got that first touch, the nerves just went and it felt normal.

"The speed and contact is just a completely different level. It's a lot tougher when you get hit than it is in the 19s.

"I loved it but the result was disappointing because we just started to play properly in the last ten minutes.

"We were playing good footy and with a few more minutes like that, we could have easily gone on to win it."
