WHEN Ilies Macani put the ball down for a sensational try against Dewsbury Rams last weekend, the sun was shining at Odsal and the rugby was manna from heaven.

But the Bulls cannot afford to rest on their laurels now or get complacent in any way over the second-half demolition of, arguably, the worst team in the Championship.

The final scoreline of 56-18 helps to brush the inadequacies of Bradford's first-half performance under the carpet.

At one stage, early in the second half, the Rams were leading the contest 18-12 and things looked uncomfortable for the Bulls.

Yet Macani is fully aware of the need to improve things at the start of games if his side are serious about maintaining their forward momentum.

He admitted: "We haven't really put in a full 80-minute performance yet – but we are working on that and hopefully it will come together.

"It is a bit of mental discipline and concentration, maybe due to not having a full pre-season? That's what has cost us a couple of times in games this season.

"So we are looking to put the pieces together now – the little 20-minute spells that we clock off – and put on a full 80-minute performance this weekend."

Former London Broncos winger Macani sprinted 90 yards to score against the Rams and his try, which edged the Bulls 20-18 ahead, was a major turning point in the game.

It was the sort of try assisted by a dry track and although rain has been forecast for the early part of this weekend, Macani feels improvement in the weather will only help the Bulls this season.

He said: "It was good to get over the line and good to play in dry conditions. We have always said that as soon as the pitch dries up, we will be able to show our true potential and really gel as a team, so hopefully it will be dry at Oldham.

"Obviously, we can play in wet conditions too, but we just have to narrow our game up and adapt to those conditions."

With tomorrow's opponents Oldham only seven points above the Bulls, who are bottom of the table on minus four, Macani reflected: "We know how important these games are and how crucial they are to our season.

"We are keeping our heads down and working hard. We are not over-confident or filling ourselves with too much pressure.

"I have played against Oldham a few times and they are a really physical team. We expect the first 20 minutes to be really hard and really physical. We just need to battle through that and we should come over on top."
