ROSS Peltier insists the old heads in the Bulls squad are proving a big help as he adapts to Championship rugby.

The former Cougars forward was recalled for Sunday's win over Batley after a spell out of favour.

He delivered with some big carries from the bench as Leigh Beattie's side racked up a superb victory.

Peltier has acknowledged the support of the likes of Scott Moore, Leon Pryce and Lee Smith and the difference they are making in a generally youthful side.

He said: "It's helped massively. You need that experience out there.

"Scotty really helps us forwards. Before he came in, I was the oldest forward and I'm not the most experienced. But he helps to keep our heads up during the game.

"Leon's someone I've known from when I was younger because his dad used to coach me. I've always looked up to him as a bit of a mentor and he has helped a lot.

"I know what was expected in the Championship because I've done it before with Huddersfield. It's not fazed me because I back myself all the time. I know what I'm capable of as a player and I want to get Bradford higher."

Peltier and Mikolaj Oledzki both gave the Bulls added momentum when they came on at the end of the first half against Batley. He feels he combines well with the on-loan Leeds Rhinos teenager.

"Mik and I are both ball carriers who can get us on the front foot," said Peltier. "It works well with us two and we can bring an impact.

"I was frustrated to have missed out on the last three games but I got my chance to prove myself on Sunday and I wanted to take it.

"Batley looked like a team that are going to be around where we are, so we saw it as a four-point game. After what happened last week at London, there was no way we could afford to lose.

"It was a big win for us. You can see from the results that anybody can beat anyone in this league. Nobody's built up a big head of steam.

"We know if we can clean up the mistakes, be more consistent and put in an 80-minute performance, then anything's possible. Everyone's positive and we're just trying to win every week."

Interim coach Leigh Beattie stressed that Peltier must improve with his defensive duties – an assessment the player is well familiar with.

He said: "That's always been one of the criticisms of my game. Everyone knows that I want to attack.

"A few weeks off haven't helped me fitness-wise but I know I've got to work harder on defence. If I tidy up that part of my game then I'll be a lot better."

The Bulls are hoping that Leeds will allow Oledzki to play in the Challenge Cup against Featherstone this Sunday.

Peltier is looking forward to the break from the Championship survival battle and said: "The priority is always going to be the league but we want to go as far as we can in any competition.

"It's a club that should always expect to win whatever we're in. It would be nice to get through and get a Super League team down here and see us test ourselves."
