ADRIAN Purtell admits he was delighted to bid farewell to the Bulls on a winning note.

The departing Bradford skipper returned from a quad injury to score a try in the Championship Shield final win over Sheffield.

After five seasons at Odsal, the Australian centre will now head to London Broncos.

Purtell said: “It would have left a really sour taste if we had lost on Sunday.

“It good for me to leave the club on a high, but I also think it was massively important for the club going forward that we got the job done and we did.

“Regardless of what has happened these last five years, I've really enjoyed my time here and it was nice to end in the right way.

“I was touch and go these past few weeks but Rohan was good about it and said he wanted me to have a game before I finished up.

“At my age, the injury I had and the position we were in, it just wasn't worth risking it in recent weeks.

“If we were in a different position, I might have been pushing it a bit harder.

“Thankfully the coaching staff and rehab staff gave me some extra time and it was great to play one final time on Sunday.”

Purtell will move to the capital shortly as Andrew Henderson’s side seek to build on their second-placed finish in 2016.

Purtell said: “They have got a really good culture down there and want to work hard for each other.

“We need to build on what they did this year and I'd certainly like to play Super League again before I retire, so it would be great to get promoted next season.”
