KRIS Welham has tipped Dane Chisholm to take Odsal by storm as the new recruit prepares to make his Bulls debut against Whitehaven this weekend.

Welham played outside the Aussie half-back for Hull KR towards the end of last season, when the Robins racked up seven straight wins in the middle eights.

Their sequence of victories included a 48-4 demolition of the Bulls at Craven Park in a game which saw Welham and Chisholm both touch down.

Welham enjoyed playing alongside the 26-year-old and reckons his arrival will give Rohan Smith’s men a massive lift as they bid to defy the odds and sneak into the top four.

Close-season signing Welham, who scored his 100th career try against the Bulls in last year’s middle eights clash, is set to be reunited with Chisholm in Sunday’s visit of Whitehaven to Odsal.

Welham said: “It's a massive boost to get Dane on board because he is a very skilful player and can create tries out of nothing.

“It's an area we have probably been lacking in this season because we've had a few injuries at half-back this year.

“We've had a lot of people in and out there and there has been no real structure or consistency.

“With Dane coming in, hopefully he can get a few games under his belt before the middle eights, if indeed we qualify for them.

“I certainly benefited from playing outside him and am looking forward to playing with him again here at Bradford.”

Chisholm proved a key figure for the Robins during his short stint with Rovers last year, scoring three tries in seven appearances.

He will look to replicate that impact at Bradford following his arrival from the Canterbury Bulldogs on a deal until the end of next season.

Yet Welham admitted the Bulls face a mountainous task to reach the middle eights with successive defeats to Halifax and Leigh leaving them three points adrift of the top four with three games remaining.

He added: “That’s the position we are in now and we have put ourselves there through poor results and just not managing games properly.

“We have dropped so many points this year through our own doing and we can blame no-one else but ourselves.

“We’ve got three games left now and we will keep fighting. We want to get three wins from three and hopefully that will be enough to squeeze back into the top four.

“We just need to concentrate on ourselves and things can change quickly.

“We were third the other week but then lost to Halifax and dropped to fifth, so things can change quickly.”

The Bulls will seek to bounce back from last week’s agonising defeat at Leigh, which saw them recover strongly from a sluggish start to lead the Championship leaders only to lose to a late try from Reni Maitua.

“The boys were absolutely gutted and devastated but we can be proud of our efforts,” reflected Welham.

“We gave them a nice 10-0 lead and started slack but showed great attitude to come back strongly.

“But you can’t concede two tries so early on to a team like Leigh and it cost us in the end.”

BRADFORD'S Under-16s last night claimed a highly impressive 42-10 win over Wakefield at Odsal.
