ROHAN Smith will rely on strength in numbers as the Bulls aim to cash in on their double-header with the Championship’s bottom two.

Bradford are eyeing the chance to regain lost ground and climb back into the top four with two games in the space of four days.

Smith aims to utilise his full resources for the road trips against Workington and Oldham – although he is not looking beyond tomorrow’s Cumbrian clash.

He said: “We’re solely focused on Workington. At the end of the game we’ll have a good chat as a staff.

“We’ll speak to the medical team and see who’s in the best shape to back up.

“We’ll be using our whole squad in the next week but no player is looking at the midweek game. We’re totally focused on tomorrow.”

Coming from the NRL, it is a culture shock for Smith to be playing twice within such a short period – although it is not completely new.

“There’s nothing like that in the NRL,” he added. “I’ve experienced a little bit when I was here with London ten years ago over that Easter period with the Friday and Monday games.

“But at this point of time, it’s one game at a time. We can’t afford to get ahead of ourselves.”

Smith was disappointed with his side’s attacking efforts as they went down 16-14 to Dewsbury last week in his first home outing in charge.

That is an area they will look to put right at Derwent Park against opponents who have managed only two wins.

Smith said: “We didn’t earn the right enough last week. We didn’t build any pressure by working together and combining well.

“We weren’t prepared to do that for a period of time until we got a result.

“We were looking for the result before we went through the process.

“We’ve addressed that and done some good practice this week so we’re looking for an improved attacking performance.

“It was great to be at Odsal for the first time but I felt more for the players and the fans.

“We didn’t put on the performance and I take that personally. As head coach, I have to be accountable for that first before anyone else is.

“It’s important to move on and not dwell on previous performances. It’s about treating that as a learning experience, getting something out of it and moving forward.”

The Bulls will start firm favourites but the Championship has thrown up plenty of surprises already and Smith is determined they will not be caught out.

“There have been a lot of upsets this season. The Bulls have experienced a little bit of that prior to me getting here.

“Sport of any kind is not about who’s expected to win. You’ve got to earn the right for it every week.

“It’s purely names on the page until you prove your reputation on game day.

“Who you are, what you’ve done before, doesn’t matter when the game starts. It’s about proving yourself every week.

“Teams love playing at home, no matter where they are in the table.

“With a big club coming to town with our supporter base, I’d imagine Workington will have one of their biggest crowds of the season.

“That helps us but also gives the opposition a good environment to play in. We’re expecting them to throw a lot at us.

“They are willing to back themselves and posed a lot of threats to London last week. We’re under no illusions.”

Lucas Walshaw has shown no ill-effects from the knock to the head that forced him off just three minutes into his first Championship appearance this year.

Smith said: “He’s been fine. He went off and the doctor ruled him out on game day but he’s had no symptoms since then.

“He’s chomping at the bit to be involved again.

“The good news is, if he comes through all the tests then he’ll be fresh for this week.

“We’ll go through the protocol and then see where he’s at.”
