JIMMY Lowes will make an emotional farewell to Bulls supporters on Sunday as he prepares to leave Odsal for the last time.

The 46-year-old yesterday handed in his resignation and confirm what many had suspected for some weeks – he had had enough.

Lowes cited “personal reasons” for his departure and is poised to make a return to rugby union on the coaching staff with Yorkshire Carnegie.

As head coach, he guided the Headingley outfit to the Championship play-off semi-finals in 2014 before leaving to take the reins at Bradford in June of that year.

Lowes is well regarded at Carnegie but his association with the Bulls will come to an end after this weekend’s visit of Workington.

A hand-over process will see him work with interim head coach Matt Diskin for the rest of this week and attend Sunday’s game.

After the match, Lowes and his backroom team will head to the pub to give their departing head coach a send-off.

With Lowes’ contract due to expire at the end of the season, there was little sign of a new deal being offered and even less sign of any apparent desire from him to stay.

Lowes has appeared tired of it all at times this season and he looked and sounded resigned after the recent Sheffield defeat.

Yet chairman Marc Green remained an ardent supporter of the 1997 Man of Steel and showed no sign of losing faith in him.

The pair talked at length outside the Conference & Banqueting Stand after the Sheffield game and Green’s backing for Lowes appeared clear.

In the end, after talking privately of handing in his resignation towards the end of last month, Lowes finally threw in the towel yesterday morning.

This time, there was no turning back.

“This decision has come with a heavy heart and I have had to make this tough call for personal reasons, and I request everyone respects that,” said Lowes.

“I would like to personally thank the players, directors, staff and especially, all the supporters of this great club for my time here.”

It remains to be seen whether Lowes will take the field on Sunday to say his farewells to a fanbase who idolised him during his playing days.

Either way, he is unlikely to be seen at Odsal again for quite some time as the search for his successor begins in earnest.
