WAKEFIELD chairman Michael Carter has admitted relegation to the Championship could force the club to go part-time.

The Wildcats are desperate to beat the Bulls tomorrow and secure their place in the top flight.

But, much like Bradford, the Belle Vue outfit have struggled financially in recent times and Carter accepts defeat this weekend would give him plenty to ponder.

Carter said: “We would have to look at every aspect of the business because the central funding would be half of what we are currently getting as a Super League club.

“As with everything we have ever done here, we would have to cut our cloth accordingly and we would do that.

“Whether we stay full-time is a question still to be answered.

“We’ve had many discussions about it this week and you look at some clubs who are going full-time next year, such as Sheffield.

“Bradford stayed full-time, Leigh went full-time, but they did that on the back of a pretty decent fanbase.

“Albeit not Sheffield, perhaps, but they have got other sources of finance in place to turn full-time.

“Then you look at Halifax, who are staying part-time and have been one of the most attractive sides I’ve seen this year.

“There are arguments for and against staying full-time, but a lot of it will be determined by how many season-tickets we sell and how that fits into our budget.”
