BRADFORD Bulls confirmed they had completed a deadline-day signing – but refused to reveal his identity until next week.

The club announced on Twitter that the new man was in place and would be named in the next five days.

The Bulls are aiming to build up excitement over the new recruit’s identity as they gear up for the promotion-deciding Super 8s.

They hope the new man, who is believed to be an overseas signing, will give Jimmy Lowes’ squad the final push it needs to secure an immediate return to the top flight.

There were no other incomings or outgoings at Odsal yesterday. The Bulls did try to bring in another prop but the deal failed to materialise. But there was plenty of activity elsewhere.

Salford Red Devils, who the Bulls will face in the Super 8s, bolstered their squad with the acquisition of Wigan centre Iain Thornley and Featherstone second-row Reni Maitua.

Maitua scored a fine individual try in Featherstone’s recent win at Odsal and Salford assistant coach Ian Watson said: “We are really excited about the forthcoming challenge of the Middle 8s.

“A player of Reni's experience and versatility will be a great asset for the club in this series of matches.

“Reni has been one of the outstanding performers in the Championship this year and we are very confident with his huge experience at the very highest levels of the game that we can hit the ground running in Super League.”

Wakefield continued their late-season signing spree with the capture of Leeds prop Andy Yates on an 18-month contract.

The 25-year-old becomes the Wildcats' eighth signing in the last six weeks as coach Brian Smith reshapes his squad in time for the Super 8s.

Meanwhile, long-standing Bulls supporter Peter Owen, who suffered a heart attack during last Sunday’s game with Leigh, is expected to make a full recovery following further medical treatment.

He was taken ill in the Provident Stand during the match before being attended to by St John Ambulance staff and taken to hospital.
