SHEFFIELD boss Mark Aston has hinted he could try and sign Bulls star Dave Petersen permanently if his loan stint proves successful.

The close-season capture has yet to feature for Bradford since joining the club on a one-year deal from the Mackay Cutters.

But he is now fully fit after injury and, having recently turned out for Oxford on dual-registration, the loose forward has joined Sheffield on a month’s loan.

Petersen is in line to make his debut at Batley tomorrow night and he is keen to make his mark.

He said: “I’m very happy to be here and am just looking forward to the opportunity to play with Sheffield and to crack on with my rugby.

“I’m raring to go and I’ve not come here to sit around – I want to get out on the pitch.

“I guess the month’s trial is obviously what both clubs are looking at so I can get some game-time and hopefully play well.”

Aston said he tried to sign Petersen during pre-season before Bradford snapped him up.

The Eagles chief said: “I’ve watched Dave over the years and he’s a tough and uncompromising back-rower who can also play hooker.

“He’s committed and he trains 100 per cent, so it’s easy to fit in when you’ve got that sort of attitude.

“How long he stays depends on Dave, on us and on Bradford.

“Who knows where his future lies? If Bradford don’t want him then he could fit for us.”
