JIMMY Lowes says he is taking the Jose Mourinho approach to his team selection as he vowed: “I’ll play my best side every week!”

The Bulls head coach can expect to see his men rack up an 11th straight Championship victory at Whitehaven tomorrow.

And he will continue to pick his top men in every game, dismissing fears of burn-out for stars such as Adam O’Brien, who has proved arguably the Bulls’ most influential player this season.

The homegrown hooker has played 80 minutes in virtually every match and other key men such as Lee Gaskell, Adam Sidlow, Paul Clough and Jay Pitts have proved similarly indispensable.

When asked to sum up his approach to team selection, Lowes compared it Chelsea boss Mourinho, who guided his team to the Premier League title last weekend.

Lowes said: “There is no reason why these guys shouldn’t be playing every week.

“We’re a full-time professional outfit and Jose Mourinho is a prime example of that in football.

“How many matches do they play and how many games do the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and John Terry play?

“They play every game for Chelsea, so you play your best team whenever you can.

“The players get looked after, so you can talk about tiredness and burn-out but that’s only a small percentage, I reckon.

“I don’t think you burn out from playing at all and, because we are full-time professionals, there is no excuse for that sort of burn-out.

“Heading into the Doncaster game, we trained them extremely hard because we needed to get a bit of work into them.

“The players showed some slight fatigue on the back of that but you cannot use that as an excuse week in and week out because they are full-time players.

“There are blokes at Whitehaven who will go off to work and train at night, which is a tough thing to do.

“But these guys here? I’ll play them from the first game right to the last game.”

Lowes said his team had to be on top form every week in order to build momentum heading into the Super Eights at the end of the 23 regular weekly rounds.

“You can’t switch your form on – you need to show how good you are week in and week out,” said Lowes, who could have Steve Crossley and Jean-Philippe Baile available again tomorrow after hamstring injuries.

“You need that consistency in your game so that when you step up to play Super League clubs, the step isn’t so great.

“If you just plod along, which we are not doing, then you will find right at the end of the year that the step up is too great.

“So you’ve got to be good every week and you’ve got to build that momentum.

“That helps you be at your peak by playing well week in and week out.”

The Bulls will make the long trek to Cumbria on the back of their best performance of the season after stuffing Sheffield 46-12 last Sunday.

Lowes is now seeking further improvement and will not take lowly Whitehaven lightly.

He added: “We’ve had some strong halves of rugby this season and I thought the first half at Leigh was very good.

“Sunday’s performance against Sheffield was probably the best for the longest period of time rather than our best performance.

“But we need to replicate that this week and that’s the challenge, rather than dwelling on how good last week was. That has been our focus this week.

“It’s going to be tough at Whitehaven and if we continue to make errors it will be even tougher.

“Cumbria is a tough place to go and play rugby – it always has been and it always will be, regardless of what division any of the sides up there are in.

“I’ve played up there many, many times with Bulls and Leeds in Super League and also in the Challenge Cup. You’ve got to be on your game.”

Meanwhile, the Bulls’ Under-19s beat Salford 27-16 on Thursday night.
