JIMMY Lowes believes Kevin Sinfield’s cross-code switch to Yorkshire Carnegie will prove a “fantastic move” for both parties.

The Bulls head coach is well qualified to judge as he spent a year coaching the rugby union outfit before leaving to take the reins at Odsal last June.

Lowes played against Sinfield and worked with him when he was on the staff for Leeds Rhinos and the national team.

“It’s a fantastic move for both parties and will extend Kevin’s career by a couple of years,” said Lowes.

“He’s a great professional who looks after himself and he’s a good rugby player.

“Knowing Kev like I do, he will study the game, learn it and educate himself on it.

“He’s a got a great kicking game as we all well know, so this is a high-profile signing for Yorkshire Carnegie.

“I’m not surprised and I think he will adapt to it very well indeed.”

Rhinos skipper Sinfield, 34, will join Carnegie at the end of the season and looks certain to play fly-half, which would ideally suit his organisational skills and astute kicking game.

Lowes, who guided Carnegie into the play-offs during his only season in charge, added: “I would imagine Kevin will play No 10 because he can kick so well out of hand and his goal-kicking is superb too.

“His organisational skills are very good and if the opposition want to target him then he has done enough tackles in rugby league to handle that. I think he’s a great addition for Yorkshire Carnegie.”
