CHRIS Ulugia has been inspired by the achievements of Bulls legend Shontayne Hape as he bids to establish himself at Odsal.

Hape scored 85 tries in 136 appearances during his time at Bradford before crossing codes and joining Bath in 2008.

Like Hape, Ulugia is a New Zealand centre out to make his mark in the famous red, amber and black.

The close-season signing from the Mackay Cutters remembers watching Leeds-Bradford derbies with his father.

Ulugia, who is lodging with former Cutters team-mate Karl Davies, said: "I was born in New Zealand and then three years later I moved to Sydney.

"I always used to watch Bradford Bulls and Leeds battle it out when I was a kid.

"I would wake up really early and my dad would always have that game on the telly.

"Shontayne Hape was quick, strong and I always liked watching him play. I'd love to have the kind of impact he made at this club."

Ulugia, who has signed a two-year deal, can also play on the wing and his versatility should serve the Bulls well next term.

"I've signed a two-year contract and I plan to stay here for a while," he said.

"As of this season, I've thought centre is my best position but in previous years I've been pretty good on the wing.

"I've played a lot of my footie on the wing, so that would be just as good.

"I'm just going to do my best so that when pre-season games come around I can kill it.

"We've got to do our best every week and hopefully we can get straight back up into Super League. That's the main goal for us.

"I'm pretty confident because our squad looks really good and we have a lot of depth as well.

"I would say that we should winning every game every week with the squad that we have."

Meanwhile, Bulls star Danny Addy was among the Scotland try-scorers in Dublin as they claimed a 25-4 win over Ireland in the European Championship.

Odsal new boy Dan Fleming also scored a try but his Wales side lost 42-22 to France in Albi.
