Manase Manuokafoa has revealed he will play no part in Tonga’s World Cup campaign and instead head home to Australia during the off-season.

The Bulls prop, who has enjoyed two fine campaigns in Super League since arriving from Parramatta, represented his ancestral country at the 2008 World Cup in Australia.

But, having not been given any indication his services may be required for next month’s tournament, Manuokafoa has instead booked a flight home to Sydney to spend a few weeks with his parents.

The 28-year-old said: “I’ve not had any contact with the Tongan association and I think if I was in their plans then I would have heard by now.

“There are a couple of boys in front of me and that’s the way it goes.

“I was fortunate enough to play in the 2008 World Cup and I’m happy I did that.

“It’s something I crossed off as one of my goals earlier in my career so going to see my parents and family back home in Sydney really balances it up.

“I’ve not seen my folks since I joined Bradford two years ago and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll then come back and rip in for pre-season at the Bulls.”

Manuokafoa played in all but four of the Bulls’ 27 Super League games during 2013 and in July he agreed a contract extension which keeps him at the club until the end of 2015.

He was happy to ensure the Bulls ended the season on a high by beating table-toppers Huddersfield last weekend.

Manuokafoa added: “Our goal this season was to make the play-offs and that obviously didn’t happen.

“But it was important for us to finish on a high, which we did, and that’s something to build on in pre-season.

“On a personal note, I think I’ve had a good year. I just go out there and try and do my job by playing good, consistent footie rather than having a good game here and then a bad game there.

“I like to think I’ve stayed consistent and I’ve been happy with my performances.”
