James Donaldson admits he faces a tough decision over whether to accept the contract on offer from the Bulls.

The 21-year-old back-rower signed a one-year deal during the off-season which expires at the end of 2013.

The Bulls tabled an offer to his agent last week – believed to be another one-year contract – but Donaldson is keen to secure a longer-term deal.

He says he has attracted interest from rival clubs but ideally would like to stay at the Bulls, who he has played for since the age of 16.

The Cumbrian said: “The club got in touch with my manager last week and made me an offer.

“It’s something for me to think about and for my manager to deal with, but it has to be right because my whole life is about playing rugby.

“I’ve been here a long time but I’ve got to do the right thing for myself as well.

“It’s just a matter of weighing things up and making a decision.”

Asked about the length of the deal on offer, Donaldson said: “I think it’s more likely to be a one-year contract but that’s what older players tend to get.

“I’m a young lad and I need more than one year, so I’ve got a lot to weigh up.

“There has been some interest from other clubs and it’s just a matter of deciding now.

“But to be honest I’m not really thinking about it too much. I’m just concentrating on my game and I’ll let my manager take care of my future.”

Donaldson has shown fleeting glimpses of his best form this term and was sent to play for Dewsbury on dual registration earlier this season.

Although he has started the Bulls’ last four matches, Donaldson would like coach Francis Cummins to give him more time to impress during games.

And he feels that, after bouncing back from two career-threatening knee injuries, his best is yet to come.

“I’m doing my best to help the team but I’d like a bit more time on the field,” said Donaldson.

“I played the first 30 minutes against Wigan on Friday and then came on for the last minute.

“But it’s not my decision how many minutes I play – it’s Franny’s – and I’ve still got a lot to work on.

“I don’t think my carry is strong enough yet and there are a few little defensive things I could get better at.

“But that should come with time and hopefully it will be with Bradford.

“It’s not something you can make a decision on overnight. You’ve got to have a good think about it.

“I’ve got a girlfriend down here, a lot of friends and I’m settled in the area.

“It would be like starting all over again if I had to leave and that’s not really what I want.”
