Consummately professional and typically no-nonsense in everything he did, Garreth Carvell was impressive during Warrington’s win at Odsal on Sunday.

Having agreed a two-year deal with Francis Cummins’ side, the England prop will be hoping for more of the same as a Bulls player next season.

Carvell, 32, said: “It was a strange feeling during the week to be coming to the place where I’ll be playing next year.

“As soon as I pulled that shirt on I’m fully committed to Warrington and Sunday was no different.

“It’s like anybody with any sort of job – you’re contracted to do that job and you come and do it. As soon as I stepped on to the field it was absolutely fine.”

Carvell was asked after the game about Elliott Whitehead’s recent departure.

His answer, much like his performance on the field, was uncompromising.

“Franny came out in the press and said he didn’t want players here who don’t want to be here – and I’m exactly the same,” said Carvell.

“If he doesn’t want to be here that’s fine, go away, it’s no big deal. I don’t want to be playing with people who don’t want to be here.

“It’s up to Elliott and good luck to him. He can do what he wants but I’d like to play with committed players in my team.”

Despite the Bulls’ current woes, Carvell sees a bright future ahead for his future employers.

He said: “They’ve had a few defeats but there are signs there that Bradford could be a force next year.

“Hopefully we can make a few more signings and see how we go because there are some great youngsters here like John Bateman.

“A good few clubs were after him but he’s stuck it out there and I hope he sticks with that.

“He’s a great one for the future and is still only really young.

“He’s a great competitor – a tough lad – and he can play a bit of football too.”
