Jamie Foster column

It was a bit of a fairytale return for me against Hull KR last week. I missed the Widnes game with a shoulder problem but I came back into the side to score a try, create one and kick five goals.

We have targeted quick starts in games and blew Rovers away during the opening 40 minutes to lead 26-6. I think the games we have performed in this season are when we have made very positive starts.

The boys learnt some lessons against Widnes – we had a fantastic first half but then let things slip after the break.

I remember being stood behind the sticks when Hull KR scored just after half-time last week. Our mindset was completely different – and that’s a big thing for us as a team.

We’re all enjoying it at the same time. It was obviously fantastic to see Adrian Purtell back on the field after everything he has been through.

Likewise, John Bateman was back in action for the first time this season. I get on pretty well with John and we have a good craic at training.

I played against him a couple of times before joining Bradford and I knew how good he was – and at such a young age too.

I wouldn’t say that to him because his head would probably go even bigger than it already is! But seriously, he’s a quality player and I’m going to really enjoy playing with him this year.

It’s on to Perpignan this weekend, which is the only ground in Super League I’ve never played at before. I went over with Saints and I was the 18th man and have been injured on other occasions.

I’m looking forward to going there and Leon Pryce, my old Saints team-mate, got straight on to me to suggest a round of golf over there. Leon said ‘why don’t you pack your golf clubs?’ but I couldn’t see Franny agreeing to that!

We’ll enjoy ourselves but it’s a ruthless sport and we’re going there to pick up two points. It’s as simple as that.
