Nick Scruton is due a run of luck

Matt Diskin believes Nick Scruton is ready to put his two-year injury nightmare behind him and reignite his career this coming season.

Bulls prop Scruton endured an injury-stricken campaign during 2012 after being sidelined by a long-term shoulder problem.

It was another cruel blow for the former Leeds man after an operation to repair ligament damage in his wrist forced him to miss the end of the 2011 season.

Yet Diskin, who tasted Super League title success and World Club Challenge glory alongside Scruton at Leeds, reckons his former Heading-ley team-mate is ready to re-establish himself at Odsal.

The 30-year-old Bulls joint-captain said: “Nick’s a really good friend of mine and I’ve known him a long time.

“He’s a talented player and he’s proved that he can do the business in Super League. The problem that Nick has had is that he’s been out of the game really for two years with some bad injuries.

“He’s had nothing but bad luck with breaks here and there and being diagnosed with diabetes. He’s handled that really well and is looking really good in pre-season.

“It’s going to be tough for him, though, and he’s got to find the form again that brought him to Bradford, when he was a big signing at that time.

“He’s capable of it but Nick knows, as we all do, that our backs are against the wall this year. A lot of us have got points to prove.”
