Jobe Murphy is confident his injury woes are a thing of the past as he seeks to make the breakthrough into the Bulls’ first-team.

The 20-year-old back-rower from Rastrick is gearing up for his second year as a full-time professional after his 2012 campaign was wrecked by injuries.

He sustained an ankle ligament tear which sidelined him for 12 weeks and then suffered a tendon tear in his right hand, putting him out of action for another two months.

Yet Murphy has enjoyed a fine pre-season so far and believes he is ready to lay down a marker to Bulls coach Francis Cummins.

Murphy, who progressed through the Academy ranks at Odsal after joining from Halifax amateur club Siddal, could be sent out to play at partner club Dewsbury Rams in the Championship to gain regular first-team experience.

But Murphy said: “Hopefully I can make the breakthrough at Bradford this year. As much as I tried last year, I had bad luck with two injuries, which meant I was out for 20 weeks all in all.

“By the time I got back for the last four weeks of the Under-20s season, I was playing catch-up and the season was basically over.

“I wasn’t going to prove anything then but I’ve bulked up now and feel ready to really push on. Am I confident in my ability? I’ve never felt as confident as I do at the moment.

“I feel fit and healthy so hopefully this is my time to make the transition into the first team.”

Murphy is an imposing figure at 6ft and has worked closely with head of strength and conditioning Tom Clough to prepare for the physical demands of Super League.

“I’ve bulked up by working with Tom,” said Murphy.

“He came in during my last year in the Academy and he helped me a lot.

“That helped me to push on and get the opportunity to go full-time.

“I owe a lot to him and I feel I’ve got all the tools now to make the next step.”

Murphy is the cousin of Bulls rookie Oliver Roberts, who was promoted into the first-team squad along with Curtis Naughton and Sam Wood.

Murphy added: “Ollie’s mum is my dad’s sister so we’re pretty close and I spend more with him than anyone else.

“I wake up, am straight to his house, and we travel in together. He could be another great kid coming through.”

Meanwhile, Bulls supporters can collect season tickets in person starting from Friday, between 3pm and 7pm and again on Saturday between 11.30am and 2pm.

Season tickets can be collected from the Coral Stand and Bulls players, together with chairman Omar Khan, will be in attendance to hand them out to fans who have bought them for the coming campaign.
