Ricky Ravenhill column

It’s amazing the number of times that Bradford City have been mentioned this week during the Capital One Cup games.

It just brings it back a year down the line what a fantastic achievement it was to reach the final. Everywhere you look there are clips of us and people are still talking about what we did.

There are no teams below the Championship left now and we’re at round four – which was the Wigan stage last season. That felt way back for us and just makes you realise how far we kept going in the competition.

For everyone to be out at this stage shows how dominant the big teams are. So for us to go all the way to Wembley was unbelievable.

I think secretly we’re all quite glad that nobody is going to match what we did. It just makes you more proud.

It shows just how hard it is – if someone had gone and done the same this year, that would have knocked off a bit of the gloss from our efforts and people might have soon forgot about it.

But hopefully it will still get talked about for years to come. Maybe this time next season they might still be using clips of us on the telly because there are no new ones from this year.

I was at a local school last week and straight away the children were asking about getting to Wembley. That’s the first thing they say and want to talk about.

It’s brilliant for Bradford and the teachers are saying that there are a lot now converting back from supporting Leeds. The cup run was a good thing in many respects and that’s one of them if it’s encouraging more of the younger kids to grow up as fans.

Last week’s first away win was a big breakthrough. We’d talked about the things we needed to do and knew we just had to get the basics right.

We set off well and dominated all areas and it was good to get off the mark. That first one’s under the belt and hopefully we can kick on from there.
