Ricky Ravenhill column: The gaffer is using his brain to make a few changes at Cheltenham on Saturday.

It’s a sensible thing to do with the play-offs coming up but it certainly doesn’t mean we’ll be weakening the team.

Whoever comes in will be good, proven players who have been a big part of our season. People like Doyley and Carl McHugh have not played lately and deserve their chance.

We wouldn’t deliberately play a weaker team anyway because that would be disrespectful to the other clubs. Cheltenham are still trying to get that third promotion spot and it wouldn’t be fair on Rotherham.

We also want to keep our momentum going. As a squad, we’re all in it together – we are the form team and we’re trying to take that into the play-offs.

The run we’ve been on has been unbelievable; it’s championship-winning form. It’s exactly how we wanted to finish the season.

We had ten points to catch up after Exeter and to achieve that in such a short space of time to guarantee the play-offs with a game to spare has been incredible.

A lot of people thrive on confidence and we know what we are capable of going into these massive games.

I’ve seen both sides of the play-offs. I was involved with Doncaster when they got promoted but was unsuccessful at Darlington when we got beaten by Jonah’s mob Rochdale in the semi-finals.

It is a different pressure to normal because it has that cup feel to it. It’s not like you can put things right a month later; you have to turn up on the day and deliver to stay in.

That’s where our League Cup experience can help. We’ve had that big match atmosphere on several occasions this season and should know exactly what to expect.

There are also a lot of experienced players in the squad who’ve been through this situation before and can guide the younger ones.

The main thing is that we make the most of this opportunity and enjoy the occasion. It’s been a long season and a memorable one and there’s no reason why it cannot end with promotion.
