Ricky Ravenhill column: Something had to give sooner or later in the season.

We’ve been on a fantastic run and, having been out of the FA Cup once, unfortunately we’re finally out of it again.

But we had a good go against Brentford and certainly didn’t wimp out.

The gaffer has to rest people because of the number of games we’ve got. But it’s good he was able to do that and the team that we put out was still able to give everything.

That’s credit to the squad we’ve got here.

We put in a fantastic effort. Having been ahead twice against one of the best teams in League One and taken them to extra-time, you’ve got to hold your heads up high and be proud of what you’ve done.

We had a good go against them at home and away and more than matched them for large periods on Tuesday night. They had a lot of possession but we did the job we were sent out to do and I felt we were a bit unlucky.

Look at how many changes we made – ending up with four kids out of the youth team on the pitch at the end. It’s great experience for them.

It’s a day they will always remember and for us older players, we just tried to help them through it.

They’ve got to start somewhere and I’m glad they came in to a side that has been doing so well so we could push them along.

I thought Scott Brown was outstanding. I’ve played with him a few times now and he doesn’t look out of his depth at all.

He’s got a bright future in the game ahead of him. He’s not scared to put his foot in and he’s strong physically.

It’s also good to see players coming back from injury at just the right time. Reidy got 60 minutes under his belt and Zav’s looking good again.

And hopefully a month or so down the line you might see Andrew Davies back in the frame.
