Connell joins Bradford City
6:00pm Friday 20th July 2012 in Bantams
By Simon Parker, Bradford City Reporter
Alan Connell challenges City's Ben Muirhead in 2005
City have snapped up Swindon striker Alan Connell on a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old becomes Phil Parkinson’s eighth summer signing and links up with his new team-mates in time for their week-long trip to Ireland.
Parkinson said: "I'm obviously delighted to get Alan on board. He's an intelligent striker with a good goalscoring record in recent years and will add something different to our attack."
Connell finished top scorer with 13 goals in Paulo Di Canio’s title-winning side but was deemed surplus to requirements by the Italian for League One.
The former Bournemouth, Brentford and Hereford hitman joined Swindon a year ago from Grimsby for a fee believed to be over £100,000.
City swooped after Swindon came to an agreement with London-born Connell, who had another 12 months on his County Ground contract to run. He passed a medical before putting pen to paper.
Scunthorpe and Stevenage were among several clubs who had also been linked with him.

As stated, that is the one more in before Ireland. Possibly another to come shortly but I really do expect any shortfall in the squad to be covered by long term loans now.

.
I still think we need full-back cover/competition, as well as someone to challenge Reid on the left. Also we only have 3 centre-backs (plus 1 out long-term, who PP wants to release anyway), so, do we need to look at cover there?

first i would like to say thanks for a great day on the last day of last season, first time i have been to your ground,it was great to raise our red/white scarfs for the fire disaster and the applause also from you for our players at the end.
second i would like to say what a great player you have in allan connell, any other manager would have kept him, he will be a great goal scorer for you this season, he gave us 100% everygame scored vital goals.many town fans classed him as an impact player coming on from the bench but i would have started him every game.
But paolo is on another planet to us, no one knows who he will pick, fall out with, praise,
paolo said he will not cut it this season with us. so he must move on, we have signed collins, and williams who will take us to the next step.
many town fans have had big bets on us @ 11/1 which i have had £150.
and many including myself had £80 @ 22/1 after we lost 5 on the bounce at the start of the season.
third.. i fancy rotherham for div 2, but now hope you are in the mix.
fourth... have a great season and will look out for connell and hope he bangs many in..

Tbh I really do not know what type of striker connell is? however it appears he comes with a good pedigree , still not sure where this signing will ross hannah? Maybe a loan deal for ross elsewhere? . Breaking news? Dear me telegraph sports journalist , a total joke for the supporters of bradford cty
But he will miss sitters, so give him a chance and stick with him.i think we paid £175k for him gave him a 2 year contract and then gave him to you for free.

Noticed York were linked with him when we signed Meredith and thought then he'd end up at a better level than that - glad it's with us!!

Just noticed that Andy gray got two last night for Leeds. Ok it was only against Farsley but he also only played 45 mins.

Never heard of him,Top scorer with13 goals,I cant remember ever seeing him down on score sheet!if you was a top scorer for for the title winners i would imagine you would score more than 13 as well lol!!!!
as for top scorer with only 13,perhaps thats why you was not challenging at all last year. paolo chucked out a player who scored 6 goals in the first 8 games due to his attitude,
we had every player in our team who scored 6 plus goal, which included a rotation of a huge pool of players.
as for connells goals it was in the LIVE game on sky when we were losing 2-1 at home to rotherham when he came off the bench to score two goals to win the game 3-2, it ws then our season changed,
also if he scored the winning goal to get you to wembley im sure you would remember him.
still if you want a player who will score you 20+ this season sign mendi kerrouche who has got a poor attitude but will score,
a player who scores 20+ wont win you the league if others dont chip in
as for your last quote
we piissed the the league with a 13 goal striker.
how did you finish in the table LOL.

To the stfc fan, thanks for the extra info re Connel, many city fans hadn't heard of Lee Mills or Robbie Blake when we signed them. I'll leave it at that.

A REAL CHALLENGE NOW FOR HANSON: but we need players capable of putting a whole series of good, quality crosses in form both sides of the pitch

When fit and used correctly JH is one of the most dangerous front men in the lower two divisions, I'm hoping this season he gets better service cos his scoring record is very good considering the struggle the team has had over that period, with him being one of the few positives. Cost hardly owt and scores goals, Nahki can also be accredited with the same.
