Managerless City were all smiles after deservedly notching up their first league win of the season.

Two goals from James Hanson and others from skipper Guy Branston and sub Nahki Wells saw the Bantams come from behind to see off Barnet.

The first three were all set up by Chris Mitchell, who had been recalled to the side along with Mark Stewart. Both Scots were excellent.

It was a satisfying afternoon for Colin Cooper, put in temporary charge following Peter Jackson's sudden exit. And for the fans who saw their team play with a bit of style.

Barnet played their part and Clovis Kamdjo should have given them an eighth-minute lead but bludgeoned his free header wide from a corner.

Hanson tested Dean Brill with a flying header and Stewart fired over.

City fell behind after 15 minutes as Izale McLeod tapped home Ricky Holmes' cross. But they were level within seconds as Hanson nodded home a pin-point ball from Mitchell.

Mitchell went close with a free-kick and City looked bright going forward, with Stewart a real livewire presence.

Jack Compton seized on a blunder by Danny Senda but Hanson's close-range flick was saved by Brill.

It was a much better performance from City and they took the lead four minutes after the break, Branston converting Mitchell's free-kick. It was the first time the Bantams had their noses in front in the league this season.

And it got even better five minutes later. Again Mitchell was the provider after dispossessing Jordan Parkes and his centre was turned in by Hanson.

Barnet had not given it up and had a couple of chances to get back in the match. But City continued to be positive and Mitchell almost had a fourth from 25 yards.

Wells came on for Stewart and the Bermudan international rounded off a satisfying afternoon with a well-taken goal a minute from time.

Wells then hit the inside of the post before McLeod scrambled in a Barnet second. But it couldn't knock the gloss off for the relieved Bantams.
