STUART McCall expects play-off chasing City to start as they mean to go on at Bury tomorrow.

The Bantams make the short hop to Gigg Lane in fourth spot after winning four of their last six League One games.

An away following of just under 3,000 hope to witness another step towards clinching a place in the promotion shoot-out.

McCall, who was pipped for the manager of the month crown for March by Valley Parade predecessor Phil Parkinson, wants to see his side come bursting out of the blocks.

"I thought we were a little off it first half last Saturday, although you've got to give Walsall credit for the way they came and made it difficult for us," said the City boss.

"But second half we upped our game and we need to be like that from the start against Bury. We need a good, strong start."

Fit-again Nicky Law comes into contention for his first start since February after coming off the bench in last week's win.

City have options to choose from, with only Alex Gilliead, Matt Kilgallon and youngster Reece Webb-Foster definitely out of the picture.

McCall is still targeting at least another six points to ensure his side make the cut in the top six – but he knows it will not be easy pickings against a Bury side hovering nervously above the relegation zone.

Lee Clark's side went down 5-1 at Oxford last week but before that had kept four clean sheets on the bounce.

"You look at the games we've won against teams near the bottom and they've all been tight," said McCall.

"The Oldham game in particular, Northampton 2-1 when they were down there, Chesterfield 1-0 and Coventry 2-0 recently was tight for a long period.

"Bury's last game out was a blip compared to how they've been under Lee.

"They drew 0-0 at Millwall, I was at the game with Fleetwood they drew 0-0 and they also won 3-0 against Bristol Rovers, who were going well and pushing for the play-offs at the time.

"If you've got (James) Vaughan up front, you're always going to be dangerous. He's scored over 20 goals for a struggling side."

McCall got to know Clark last season when the former Huddersfield boss was in charge at Kilmarnock.

He said: "I did a few games for TV when they managed to stay up in the play-offs, so I spoke to Lee a bit then. He's very passionate.

"He'll get them organised, has got a spirit about him and he's certainly helped them defensively. He's stemmed the goals a little bit.

"They've probably got the biggest squad in the league and spent a fair bit of money with some good pros in there.

"It's going to be a challenge – but watching training this week, there was a nice little edge to us. We've got a strong squad to pick from.

"The nearer we can get to mid-70 points, that's what we're trying to do and the quicker we can do it the better."
