STUART McCall cursed Romain Vincelot’s misfortune after his slip led to the Bristol Rovers equaliser this afternoon.

The Frenchman lost his footing in the City penalty area, allowing the loose ball to break for Charlie Colkett to cancel out James Meredith’s first goal for nearly a year.

It was City’s fourth 1-1 draw on the bounce – and saw them drop to fourth in League One.

McCall said: “It’s a slip that cost us. It’s not a basic error, they’ve not cut through us – Romain has just slipped.

“Romain was distraught about it afterwards but you just can’t legislate for that. It wasn't a mistake, it was just unfortunate.

“The first half was very tight and I don’t think we moved the ball quickly enough.

“But we were terrific for 35 minutes of the second half – the players and the crowd. It was a joy to watch and to listen to.

“I’m obviously disappointed that it’s another draw but if we play like we did second half for the rest of the season, I’ll be more than happy.”

Both sides had late chances to win it, with sub Haris Vuckic denied by a superb save from Rovers keeper Kelle Roos in the last of eight minutes added on after a drone had stopped play.

“I knew today was going to be really tough,” added McCall. “Bristol Rovers played ever so well on Tuesday night against Walsall and are on the back of two promotions.

“But we were so dominant second half and then in the last minute the keeper made a Gordon Banks save.”
