PORT Vale have embarked on a major overhaul this summer with over a dozen players having arrived under new boss Bruno Ribeiro.

Last week their extensive rebuilding continued with the signing of midfielder Nathan Ferguson, the 13th new arrival at the club.

The 20-year-old agreed a one-year deal, with an option for a further 12 months, at Vale Park after leaving Championship side Burton Albion.

Ferguson joined Burton from non-league Grays Athletic in December 2015.

He played seven times on loan for sixth-tier side Dartford last term.

Ribeiro, the Portuguese former Leeds United midfielder, is also keen to add former Nottingham Forest and Doncaster striker Nathan Tyson to his squad ahead of the new season.

The new recruits include defenders Kjell Knops, Calvin Mac-Intisch, Kiko and midfielders Sebastien Amoros, Anthony de Freitas, Nathan Ferguson, Quentin Pereira, Paulo Tavares and Jerome Thomas.

There have also been the recruitment of strikers Rigino Cicilia, Anton Forrester, Christopher Mbamba and Carlos Saleiro.

Furthermore, Ribeiro says the Valiants could still bring in players on loan from Manchester United.

He is friends with United boss and compatriot Jose Mourinho, who recommended him for the job at Vale Park.

He says he will explore the possibility of taking players on loan having been impressed with members of the young United XI which lost 4-2 to a strong Vale side in last Saturday's friendly.

Ribeiro said: "I saw one or two that I like and now we will go and discuss some players coming, and with other clubs too.

"I think there can be coming one or two from Man United."

Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite says he expects the club to be in the top six in League One by Christmas after the heavy investment.

Vale finished 12th last season, nine points outside the play-off places.

Smurthwaite said: "I would not have put a large amount of money in to be mid-table mediocre.

"This is not a trial, we've signed these players for quite a long time.

"If I wasn't committed and didn't think Bruno was committed, we wouldn't have given most of them two-year contracts – so I'm expecting the players return that by demonstrating to me and the fans that they're here to do that job."
