STUART McCall insists Colin Doyle can add a "presence" to City's goal.

The Blackpool keeper is expected to complete a move to Valley Parade within the next couple of days as the new number one.

City activated a clause in the Irishman's contract which allows him to quit the relegated Tangerines for just £1. The Telegraph & Argus understands he is due to undergo a medical today as they look to agree terms.

Doyle arrives on the recommendation of new goalkeeping coach Steve Banks, who worked with the player at Bloomfield Road.

The 6ft 5in Blackpool captain was a popular figure at the club and one of the few shining lights as they crashed straight through League One.

McCall said: "Banksy knows him and watched the games against them. He's a big lad who comes for crosses.

"He's a presence which you need in this division because of the number of crosses that are put in. He's one of the many irons in the fire."

German keeper Rouven Sattelmaier played the whole 90 minutes in Saturday's first pre-season friendly at Guiseley – but he is six inches smaller than Doyle and may not feature in the long-term thinking.

With no game until Gateshead next weekend, McCall will continue to look to increase numbers and several targets have been identified by Greg Abbott.

The City boss will also be talking to the trialists who have impressed and said: "We'll try and get a couple in this week.

"People were asking me during the game 'hey McCall, what about signings'. So I said 'what about them' and they are telling me about all these (names being mentioned) on Twitter.

"Simple, don't go on Twitter. You'll know once you see the players in a City shirt, that's when they've signed.

"I've spoken to a few and Greg (Abbott) has certainly helped me out the last few days. It's good that we can work in tandem now."

Frenchman Timothee Dieng is likely to figure in McCall's thinking. The defensive midfielder, who also plays centre half and at full back, would offer cover in a variety of areas.

Dieng is a free agent after Oldham decided against taking up an option on his contract because of financial issues and has indicated he would love to sign for City.

McCall said: "We made inquiries and I spoke to people who managed him last year. He's been in for a few days, some boys have been in a lot longer, and he showed his versatility.

"He's got experience of the division, so we'll see if anything can be done. We'll put our hat in the ring.

"Hopefully we'll have another good week of training now. They didn't have a day off last week and we've worked them hard physically and with a ball and everything. It's been good so far.

"Obviously I've got some talking to do now but we'll look to bring a few in again this week, both on trial and hopefully signing."

Meanwhile, season-ticket sales are just short of 15,000 ahead of next Sunday's deadline.
