JOSH Morris wants to revive City’s flagging fortunes and make up for lost time.

The winger’s display was one of the bright spots in Tuesday’s loss to Barnsley in his first start since suffering a knee injury in September.

Morris admits his season has begun again and he is keen to make his impact by helping City get back in play-off contention.

He said: “It’s been a long time out and I have got a lot of catching up to do.

“But it was obviously great to be back and play the full game and hopefully I can kick on now.

“I worked hard when I’ve been off and I just want to crack on. Hopefully I can play my part between now and the end of the season.”

City’s glaring problem is their lack of goals. They have scored just twice in six games and haven’t netted two in a league game since November.

Morris had their closest chance against the Tykes with a shot deflected in the goal mouth and is still mystified how it did not go in.

“I thought I hit it well and the keeper was nowhere near it,” he added. “I don’t know what happened on the line but somebody got a block on it.

“It seems to be the way that it’s going at the minute. We gave everything and the lads were gutted at the end.

“We ran our socks off and put in a very attacking performance but didn’t have that clinical touch to find a goal.

“But that’s part and parcel of the game. You go through spells like this, on another day we could have scored three or four.”

City’s first home loss in three months left them five points off the play-offs and they used up a game in hand on sixth-placed Millwall.

But Morris believes the top six remains a realistic target and is confident that Saturday’s home clash with his former club Fleetwood can spark another push.

He said: “The play-offs are definitely still on. There’s a lot of football left to be played and we know what we can do.

“If we go on another run like we did earlier in the season, then we will be there or thereabouts.

“We’ll come out fighting on Saturday and it’s good we’re at home again.

“The crowd were great against Barnsley and got right behind us. That helped as we got in a lot of crosses and shots,

“We need another high-energy performance and hopefully we can come back with a win.”

Mark Marshall also made a positive impression on the other wing and Phil Parkinson is likely to give them both another chance.

The City boss felt there was a swagger about Marshall’s play, although he was guilty of wasting another opportunity when he chose not to take a shot after Morris found him unmarked in the penalty area.

Parkinson said: “They are the moments. We can say well done for the effort from everybody but we need a bit more round the penalty box.

“Marshy needs the crowd to get on his side and they did. He’s a confidence type of lad and wants everyone to love him.

“He’s starting to earn that with his performance the other night and if he gets selected at the weekend, he’s got to do it again.”

James Hanson, who remained on the bench in midweek, is expected to replace the injured Billy Clarke. Defender Reece Burke is also struggling.
