JAMES Meredith enjoyed a dream debut for Australia as the Socceroos crushed Kyrgyzstan 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier today.
The win moved the Socceroos into first place in Group B, a point ahead of Jordan, after five matches.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, Australia only took the lead in the 40th minute on Mile Jedinak’s goal.
Tim Cahill, with his 42nd international goal, put the home side 2-0 up before an Ildar Amirov own-goal in the 69th minute.
Australia are scheduled to play Bangladesh next Tuesday in Dhaka.
Meredith enjoyed an outstanding game at left back and and said afterwards: "It was brilliant, I loved every minute of it. I can’t wait for the next one."
