Bradford City Under-18s booked their place in the second round of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-1 win at Scunthorpe tonight.

A 20th-minute opener from Joe Brennan and two second-half strikes from Callum Chippendale earned City a date with Barnsley at the Coral Windows Stadium - to be played by November 22 - after the Tykes defeated Carlisle at Brunton Park.

City's most threatening moment of the early stages saw Brennan firing past Patrick Weaver's near post with an angled drive after a clever lofted pass from Reece Webb-Foster.

Webb-Foster was on the end of the Bantams' next meaningful attack when he was found in the area by Chippendale but the striker couldn't quite connect cleanly with the ball and the chance was gone.

The deadlock was broken when Brennan slipped in behind Scunthorpe's back line to latch onto a well-timed Chippendale pass before calmly slotting past Weaver.

City found themselves pegged back in first-half injury-time when left back Jack Dyche curled a delightful effort from the edge of the box past Elliott Barker at his near post.

With City looking to re-establish their lead after the restart, Sam Wright fired a looping half-volley from distance into Weaver's arms and Brennan drove over the bar following a short free-kick routine just outside the box.

It was left to Chippendale to edge the Bantams' noses in front for a second time. After winning a loose ball just outside Scunthorpe's penalty area, he played a neat one-two with Webb-Foster before driving into the area and confidently firing low past Weaver.

The pair combined in virtually the same fashion 16 minutes later. Webb-Foster was again on hand with the assist and Chippendale finished with aplomb, drilling the ball into the bottom corner.

City line-up: Elliott Barker, Rhys Jenkinson, Ross Kershaw, James King, James Pollard, Daniel Devine, Dylan Mottley-Henry, Sam Wright, Reece Webb-Foster, Callum Chippendale, Joe Brennan.
