Stephen Darby is the new Bradford City captain - after penning a new three-year contract.

The ultra-consistent right back, who played every game last season, will take over the armband after committing his long-term future to the club.

Darby swept the board at the player of the year awards last month and his decision to stay is the news that all City fans have been waiting for.

Darby said: "I've loved every minute here and all I wanted to do was sign again. There's no better place for me.

"It's a massive honour and such a privilege to be given the captain's armband."

The 25-year-old, who has made exactly 100 City appearances, skippered the team twice last season when Gary Jones was ill.

Fantastic news! Consitency is what we lacked last season and is the key and he's the epitome of that! If the others are as hardworking and as committed as Darby we won't go far wrong this season! Made my day that!

Absolutely brilliant news.

There must have been a number of clubs after him. Full marks to him for re-signing...and the club for securing his services again.

Him signing is a massive plus for all at the club & the especially the fans. This will undoubtedly be the best bit of business the club will do all summer. Hopefully Meredith will put pen to paper in the coming days also.

Good news indeed. Great to have Stephen with us for what will hopefully be another three successful years. Things certainly seem to be moving in a positive direction regarding BCFC 's squad for next season, great work by all involved in the recent signings.

MR Parkinson seems to be gathering a nice bunch of players for next season Stephen Doyle tied up for 3years shows he and City mean to have a real go next season. A Forward is in the pipeline so things look rosy maybe the efforts will result in a few more season tickets which would be very welcome let us all get behind the club and watch a great season

This is fantastic news for the club. After the disappointment of losing Doyle, this has certainly given us a boost. The length of contract is good too, so a big pat on the back for everyone involved in getting this deal done.

Darby will play a massive part for us going forward, but did anyone else expect Davo to be given the armband instead?

Possibly, but Darby is a longer term prospect. Davies is older and has a habit of breaking down.
