Luke Oliver was delighted to make his long-awaited comeback in this week’s pre-season friendly at Harrogate Town.

The towering defender had not played since sustaining an Achilles injury against Burton last October.

But he came on to play the last 24 minutes of City’s final warm-up game at Wetherby Road and emerged from the match unscathed.

“It was great to have a little run-out and I thoroughly enjoyed it,” said 29-year-old Oliver.

“It was a relief to get back out there because it has been a long, hard journey.

“It’s going to take some time to get back to full speed but it was great to get these minutes under my belt.

“Certain parts of you have doubts whether you can do it again, so it was really nice to be out there.

“Next time I can hopefully play for an hour and get my fitness up because my Achilles felt fine.”

City boss Phil Parkinson will not rush Oliver’s comeback as he gears up for his first appearance in the first team since the fateful day at Burton.

The Bantams had Ricky Ravenhill sent off in the first half for violent conduct, while Oliver and Andrew Davies were both forced off with lengthy injuries.

Oliver said: “It was one of those crazy days but the team went on to have a fantastic season and it was a brilliant experience to be a part of.

“All the boys made me feel a part of things when I was injured and I enjoyed going to Wembley twice to be part of the atmosphere and the celebrations.”
