City fans should enjoy their “boring” summer without the usual transfer frenzy, according to Phil Parkinson.

Supporters used to a high turn-over of players before recent seasons are still waiting for the club’s first capture since sealing promotion to League One.

Parkinson insists plenty of discussions have taken place about potential targets and the action is likely to hot up once pre-season training kicks in again next week. In the mean time, he sees no reason for fans to fret about the absence of any new faces.

Parkinson said: “We haven’t got that many spaces to fill. We just need a few players and we’ll take our time to find the right ones – there’s no need to rush into anything.

“Supporters should relax in June because there’s very little business done. There are always lots of rumours but more happens next month when teams are coming back in for pre-season.”

City are thought to have enquired about French midfielder Therry Racon, Sheffield Wednesday’s new signing Jacques Maghoma and Chesterfield-bound winger Gary Roberts.

Jason Kennedy, whose proposed move from Rochdale in January collapsed late on deadline day, is another name to be mentioned. But sources in Lancashire believe that he favours a return to his native north-east with Hartlepool.

Parkinson is due to sit down with the board again over the next couple of days and is keeping any names strictly under wraps. He will only reveal that he has been busy speaking to different players and their agents.

Any signings are likely to hinge on the fate of the remaining out-of-contract players, whose current deals at Valley Parade will expire after the weekend.

Fans are still waiting to find out what will happen with Nathan Doyle, Will Atkinson, Zavon Hines and Carl McHugh.

The club have given nothing away about their position other than to suggest that talks have been “ongoing”.

Matt Duke’s move to Northampton, confirmed earlier in the week, is the only high-profile departure so far from the squad that went to Wembley twice in the space of three months.

Andrew Davies and Gary Jones have since signed new deals while City exercised options in the contracts to keep Garry Thompson, Kyel Reid and Jon McLaughlin.

There have been unsubstantiated rumours all summer linking Jones’s central partner Doyle with a move to Huddersfield. But the absence of any firm hints may suggest that he could be edging closer to staying with the Bantams – something that would go down very well with supporters.

Meanwhile, Nahki Wells has told the Bermuda Sun that it would be hard to ignore the chance to play at a higher level.

Wells said: “I had such a good season that there’s a lot of people showing interest these days, although I’m just taking that with a pinch of salt until something really transpires.

“Don’t get me wrong, if an unbelievable opportunity came along... but I’m not trying to second guess. I’m just trying to focus on Bradford because that’s respectfully the right thing to do.”

Mark Lawn has made it clear that City do not need to sell their top scorer, who is contracted for a further two seasons, unless a “silly” bid came in.
