Julian Rhodes is eyeing a potential £75,000 spin-off from City’s mouth-watering derby with Huddersfield in the Capital One Cup.

Last season’s finalists were handed a “thrilling” draw in the first round as they face a short hop across the M62 to their Championship neighbours.

And given the interest generated by City’s ground-breaking cup success on their way to Wembley in February, joint-chairman Rhodes believes they deserve a slot on live television.

He said: “I’m sure everybody will be thrilled with the draw and it’s something to get excited about already. I just hope they put it on TV.

“I’m sure there will be a lot of attention because we reached the final and what could be better for television than a local derby in front of a big crowd?

“It’s a draw that very quickly shifts your attention to next season and gives all the supporters something to look forward to immediately.

"Let’s hope it’s an indication of what the season is going to be like. With the league fixtures out tomorrow morning, hopefully we can start with a big game on the Saturday and that would set up a very exciting start.”

Featured clubs received £75,000 last season from live TV coverage – although that pales against the £1m plus that City banked from losing to Swansea at Wembley.

The Bantams were beaten 4-0 at Huddersfield when the sides met at the same stage of the League Cup in 2008 – with all four goals coming in the second half. But they returned two years ago to gain revenge in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy as Nialle Rodney scored the decisive penalty in a shoot-out after the game had finished 2-2.

Rhodes added: “We want to go and beat them in the cup and why not?

“We went there in the JP Trophy a couple of years ago and won, so we’d love to do the same.

“Other than if we’d been at home, I don’t think it could have been a better draw for us and our fans.”

City are not anticipating any transfer movement this week as potential targets continue to weigh up their options.

Rhodes said: “The manager is speaking to a number of players and waiting for answers back on a few. It’s the usual situation at this time of the year.”
