Andrew Davies yesterday signed a new two-year deal with City and spoke of his desire to push for a second successive promotion next season.

The former Middlesbrough centre-back was out of contract this summer but snubbed interest from elsewhere to commit himself to the Bantams.

This new deal means the 28-year-old defender is contracted to City until the summer of 2015 and he also has the option of a third year.

Having helped Phil Parkinson’s men end a remarkable campaign with the club’s first promotion since 1999, Davies wants to do it all again next season and climb into the Championship.

“This club is on the up and that was one of the main reasons I signed on loan from Stoke in the first place,” he said.

“Bradford have always been a very big club and I wanted to be a part of what the manager is doing here going forward.

“There was interest in me but I thought ‘why leave something that’s working?’

“We’re going places and getting crowds of between 11 and 12,000 at Valley Parade.

“I’ve never looked at Bradford City as a League Two club, or even a League One club. I believe this club can take off and continue to rise.”

Having initially joined from Stoke on a three-month loan in September 2011, the imposing defender extended his stay at Valley Parade until the end of that season.

He then penned a one-year deal for the 2012-13 campaign and has now shrugged off doubts he could be tempted by offers elsewhere by committing himself to City.

Davies, who endured a three-month absence due to a knee injury before returning to a play a key role in City’s promotion, is now targeting the Championship.

“If we get a couple of players in and keep the ones we have here, then we can push on again next season,” he said.

“I believe that dreams can come true, especially with what we achieved this season.

“Next year is a massive season again and we are going into a league with bigger, better and stronger players.

“But we’ve got players here who have played in the Premier League, the Championship and League One.

“There’s a lot of experience in this squad, so why can’t we push on next season?

“That’s not being over-confident, it’s just being realistic.

“You’ve got to believe in the squad you’ve got and that’s what I do.”

Delighted Bantams boss Parkinson said: “Andrew is a terrific player and we want players on board who are going to keep improving as the club improves.

“Andrew certainly fits that category. He had a great start to the season and then unfortunately had the knee injury.

“But he came back really strongly and finished the season in great form – certainly in the last few games – and played a big role in getting us to where we wanted to be.

“Andrew has got a good pedigree and has played at a higher level. He wants to push forward in his career and that’s what I like about him.

“When the season finished I had a quick chat with him and he said ‘I’m not looking at anything else, I’d like to stay here and keep moving forward’.

“It was just a case of sitting down and sorting out the contract and we’ve done that.”

Parkinson will now seek to thrash out the future of Nathan Doyle, Zavon Hines, Will Atkinson and Matt Duke, whose contracts are due to expire this summer.
