Shipley Lions notched a cup double in the Craven, Aire & Wharfe League’s finals day at Salts Sports Association.

The under-tens final, played in incessant rain, was between old rivals Shipley Lions and Bingley Barca.

The Lions took the lead in the second half with a Nathen Newell goal but then had to survive a barrage to keep their advantage in what was a great advert for junior football.

The under-11s final, between Shipley Lions and Burley Trojans, was under the new format of nine v nine on a three-quarter-sized pitch with three-quarter-sized goals.

Burley had finished just above Shipley in the league and, last time they met, had convincingly beaten the Lions.

However, Shipley opening the scoring in the first half with a penalty from Luke Kelly, David Roper adding a second after the interval.

Battling Burley got one back in the second half but Shipley defended well to keep their 2-1 scoreline, and the weekend became even better for Shipley as their under-nine Lions and under-ten Tigers won their respective leagues.

Bradford Park Avenue under-14s drew 2-2 with visitors Nab Wood in Division B, who led 2-0 early in the second half. Avenue hit back via Macaulay Haly and man of the match Liam Bates.

Connor Rhodes banged in another hat-trick for Wibsey Lions under-14s, who beat Queensbury Celtic 6-1 in the Huddersfield RCD Junior League to notch a ninth straight win.

Celtic conceded the game early in the second half after going down to nine men.

Wibsey had first use of the wind and went ahead through Ryan Archer, Rhodes and Nathan Khan soon making it 3-0.

Queensbury pulled a goal back a minute later but, despite several excellent saves from their keeper, Mudiwa Tegama made it 4-1.

A Rhodes brace made it 6-1 but the match only lasted four minutes into the second half.

Wyke Wanderers under-11s finished off their season with a 9-2 victory over Almondbury, who were reduced to eight men because of the cold.

Attah Rehman (2), Ryan Clay and Oliver Gustab made it 4-2 at half-time, Rehman (2), Gustab, Clay and Dylan Silson scoring in the second half.
