Wibsey Lions under-14s put themselves in pole position to clinch promotion as they moved top of the table with a 4-3 victory over previously unbeaten Huddersfield League leaders Greetland.

It finished 7-0 to Greetland the last time the teams met but Wibsey went into the rematch on the back of seven wins on the bounce and a strong defensive effort proved decisive as they edged out their rivals.

The Lions twice surrendered the lead in the first half before Josh Thompson added to earlier strikes by Connor Rhodes and Ryan Archer to make it 3-2 at the interval.

Nathan Khan’s header then made it 4-2 and although Greetland replied again, they could not force an equaliser.

Wibsey under-tens A team held cup finalists Batley to a 1-1 draw, thus denying their opponents four points this season and ending their double aspirations.

Cameron Balmforth made several saves to keep the first half scoreless but although Jacob McLoughlin then fired Wibsey in front, Batley finally drew level late on.

In the B team match, Batley prevented the Lions leapfrogging them into third place with a 3-1 victory, Samuel Smith scoring the consolation goal.

Shipley Lions under-nines were crowned Keybury League champions after a 0-0 draw at second-placed Keighley Shamrocks.

Louis Turner went closest to scoring for Shipley with a long-range effort in the first half.

Some great tackling by Matthew Swallow and Harvey Weston-Bayer kept the Shamrocks forwards quiet, with other notable performances coming from Will Robinson, Louis Fialdini, Charlie Menzies, Louis Anderson, Finley Southcott and Ben Bairstow.

Krishan Patel started and finished the scoring for Albion Sports under-14s A team as they edged out Craven League opponents Manningham 3-2.

Manningham twice drew level either side of an excellent headed goal by Cameron Green, who was named man of the match.

Goals by Reece Clay, Reuben Sutcliffe, Stan Cahill and Jacob Smith earned Wyke Wanderers under-eights A team a 4-3 win in a friendly against Battyeford. Goalkeeper Ellis Farrar was man of the match.

The Wanderers B team were also 4-3 winners, with man of the match Kamran Latif netting two fine individual goals.

Wyke’s under-sevens joined the under-eights to form a C team but they lost 4-1, with Ben Duffy scoring the consolation.
