Wyke Wanderers Junior Football Club have received a grant of £3,050 from Sport England to enable them to carry out after-school football coaching in local schools.

Formed in 1969, Wyke Wanderers are a progressive club and they are aiming to become an FA Charter Standard Community Club.

With the Sport England grant and the help of the West Riding County Football Association, they have put together a five-year development plan and they are eager to forge strong school-club links in line with FA and Government policies.

The money will be used to pay for the coaching sessions and coaching courses.

All Wyke coaches have FA coaching qualifications, CRB checks and first-aid training but Wyke are looking to raise the bar and gain FA youth module coaching qualifications for all their coaches.

The West Riding County FA, in conjunction with Wyke Wanderers, will also carry out girls-only sessions in the local schools.

The objective of the project is an increased participation in football and additional club membership, hopefully securing the future of the club within the community.

Local schools who may be interested in Wyke undertaking coaching sessions at their school can find contact details for Andy Pickersgill or Dave Ryan, the club secretary, on the Wyke Wanderers website at www.wykewanderers.com.
