Wibsey Lions Football Club have made a roaring start since their recent formation.

The club held their first training session last month with the aim of providing free football coaching for children aged four to ten and they are already boasting 40-50 kids at their training sessions each week.

Secretary Dave Turner said: “We have had a fantastic response and we are very proud of our achievements so far.

“We are trying to encourage children to be more healthy and have fun while learning new skills, as well as breaking down any financial barriers which may prevent children from having opportunities to play football.

“We have also created an under-14s boys’ team, two under-tens teams and we are currently in the process of setting up an under-sevens and an under-eights team.”

Turner also said the club are hoping to continue to offer their coaching free of charge for the foreseeable future.

The Lions will be entering the Huddersfield Junior League for the 2011-12 season, with their home games taking place at Queensbury School.

Training is at Grange Sports Centre every Saturday morning from 10am to 11am.
