Much-changed St Mary’s Menston’s under-19s' soccer team maintained their 100 per cent record for the season, beating Ilkley 4-1.

With captain Tom Copsey having to play in goal and several other players featuring in different positions, the match was never going to be easy.

However, St Mary’s opened the scoring with a free-kick from Pete McCarthy, although Ilkley equalised within minutes from the penalty spot.

Callum Hall put St Mary’s ahead again with a neat effort and, just before half-time, Andrew Tindall scored an outstanding goal from well outside the 18-yard box.

In the second half, St Mary’s took control, defending solidly and playing a fast passing game.

A clever flick from Gareth Parry, making his first-team debut, set up Jacob Talbot for St Mary’s’ fourth goal.

Man of the match for St Mary’s was Ed Knox for his tireless work in midfield.

This week St Mary’s have fixtures against Calder High School in the West Yorkshire Cup and Intake High School in the league.
