THERE was joint disappointment for Bradford in the Yorkshire Inter-District Team Championship at Halifax Bradley Hall.

Yet there was some consolation for missing out by a shot to winners Sheffield and runners-up Halifax-Huddersfield as Chris Green (Cleckheaton) won the individual title after two rounds of 69.

Aaron Schnacke (Halifax-Huddersfield) was second on 139 (68, 71), while Matt Evans (Sheffield) – who won the individual crown last year at Bingley St Ives – was third on 141 (70, 71), with Bradford's Dane Bairstow (Bingley St Ives) a further shot back on 142 (71, 71).

Bradford, who led by four shots at halfway on 444 from Halifax-Huddersfield and were six better than holders Sheffield, ended up on 895.

Sheffield finished on 894, as did Halifax-Huddersfield, with the steel city men taking the honours thanks to a better afternoon total (444 to 446).

York, fourth on 896, and Leeds, fifth on 898, were also in contention as four shots separated the top five teams, with only Harrogate (907), East Riding (911) and Teesside (931) tailing off.

Bradford captain Martin Gaffney said: "Despite Sheffield having a much stronger team, our team spirit was terrific.

"The lads were disappointed not to convert the victory but I'm extremely proud of their effort and thank them all for their support.

"Chris Green's 36-hole total of 138 takes him to a plus-two handicap – a great personal achievement."

It was Sheffield's fifth straight win in the competition, bettering the efforts of Teesside, who were champions from 1998-91.

Result: 1 Sheffield 894 (won on countback), 2 Halifax-Huddersfield 894, 3 Bradford 895 (Chris Green 69, 69; Terry Brushwood 81 76; Andy Town 75, 79; Warren Kemp 76, 75; Oliver Tasker 72, 81; Dane Bairstow 71, 71), 4 York 896, 5 Leeds 898, 6 Harrogate 907, 7 East Riding 911, 8 Teesside 931.
