PARK AVENUE boss Mark Bower is looking forward to seeing the best of Oli Johnson after signing him on a permanent basis from Guiseley.

The striker enjoyed a loan spell at Horsfall earlier in the season and has returned after finding opportunities limited at the Lions.

Bower said: “Oli is a very good player and he did well when he came on loan as we won three of the four games he started.

“I hope he gets a good run in the side because we will see his best then. Since he went back to Guiseley he’s been involved in all of their match-day squads but found game time limited.

“He’s fully fit though and he’s coming to us in much better shape than when he came on loan and he’ll add quality up front which is where we’ve been lacking."

Bower brought Johnson in as Jack Dyche left Park Avenue. The young striker had signed on loan until the end of the season but parent club Scunthorpe recalled him.

The Horsfall chief said: “Dyche was recalled by his club because he wasn’t getting as much game time as he and Scunthorpe would have liked. I think it's best that he goes back and then maybe he can get another loan out (he rejoined Ashton United yesterday until the end of the season).

“We’re grateful to Jack for his efforts and to Scunthorpe for allowing him to come to us and I’m sure he will go on to do well in the game. He certainly has a lot of potential and he had a great chance to score in one of his first appearances for us.

“Strikers thrive on confidence and if he had taken that good chance it could have been a different story.”

In a week of busy transfer activity among local non-league clubs, it was one in one out for Guiseley boss Adam Lockwood as he brought in Kevan Hurst, the 31-year-old midfielder joining on loan from Mansfield Town until the end of the season.

Hurst has a wealth of Football League experience after spells at Scunthorpe United, Chesterfield and Walsall.

Brighouse Town could have a new look to their side as they make the short trip to Throstle Nest for today’s derby after three new faces arrived. Town have signed promising striker Adam Shaw from Yorkshire Amateur, in-form frontman Mike Fish from league rivals Mossley and towering former Rochdale and Stockport County forward Ben Wharton.

Silsden have also made new signings with Charlie Holt and Luke Taylor both making their Cobbydalers’ debuts in last Saturday’s home defeat to Widnes. Holt is a full back who began his career at Burnley but joins Silsden from league rivals Nelson, while winger Taylor was captured from Sandbach United.
