THE Bradford-born Boshell brothers have been reunited at Avenue and Mark Bower feels they both have a lot to contribute.

When Bower was appointed, it was on the understanding that his long-term assistant Danny, the elder of the footballing siblings, would team up with him.

Both Boshells were in the starting line-up last weekend for Bower’s first home game in charge and played their part in the 1-1 draw against Telford that saw Avenue put an end to a ten-match losing streak.

Bower said: “It was Danny’s home debut and he played well and is another leader on the pitch.

“He will be an important member of the squad, very much so. He played 30-odd games in the National League last season, a division higher, and has vast experience in the Football League so he’s every bit as valuable in the side as he is in the dug-out or on the training ground.”

Younger brother Nicky first came to prominence with non-league newcomers Brighouse Town. He once had to ask for a Saturday off as Grimsby Town, with Danny in their midfield, were playing at Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

John Deacey brought Nicky to the Horsfall Stadium and he enjoyed a good spell with Avenue before being signed by Guiseley where he teamed up with his older brother for the first time.

Nicky scored in the Lions’ successful play-off final win at Chorley, Avenue’s opponents today, as Guiseley earned promotion to the country’s fifth division for the first time in their history.

Now they are back at the same club again just a few seasons later.

Bower added: “Nicky is one of a few players here that we had at Guiseley who have played at this level or above so they know all about this league.

“We need that experience and that’s why Danny will be playing a big part. It’ll be a pity that the home crowd won’t see the best of Danny because the pitch isn’t one that suits his game.

“Danny will be more in his element on some of the better surfaces in this division when we play away.”
