Bradford Park Avenue 3 FC United of Manchester 1

AVENUE leapfrogged their visitors FC United of Manchester tonight with a confidence-boosting win that stretched their unbeaten run to four games and moved them up to 15th in National North.

The visitors, captained by former Avenue crowd favourite Tom Greaves, broke the deadlock in the fifth minute when George Thompson pounced on a week back header by Billy Priestley and slotted past home keeper Jon Stewart.

Greaves - who famously scored for Avenue against FC United in the promotion play-off that saw Avenue reach National North before their great rivals - danced around Stewart minutes later but hit a post with a shot form a tight angle.

Bradford levelled soon after through Nathan Turner after great work from Chib Chilaka who was later denied a very strong penalty claim.

Chilaka was the closest to adding for either side before the break but the sides went into the interval all square.

The home side dominated the second half and edged in front in the 67th minute when a Lamin Colley header converted a good cross from Craig King.

New signing Darren Thornton marked his debut with an assist as his free-kick was flicked in via the post by Priestley to wrap up a deserved victory.

Eccleshill United enjoyed a 6-2 home win over Yorkshire Amateur after a dominant first half display saw them 4-1 to the good at the interval.

Luke Harrop and skipper Andy Cooper both bagged a brace, with Jermaine Springer and Matt Storr also weighing in.

Joel Hughes and a late strike from Thomas Rose were some consolation for the Ammers.
