BRADFORD Park Avenue will face a tough test at Steel Park tomorrow as they go to Corby Town looking for their first win of the season in Vanarama National League North.

The newly-promoted Steelman have made an unbeaten start on their return to the division, winning one and drawing their other three.

If Avenue are to dent that start, they will have to contain the home side’s dual-pronged attack.

Teenage striker Kabongo Tshimanga, on loan from Championship outfit MK Dons, opened his account within 12 minutes of his home debut for Corby.

The loan deal was for one month initially but both clubs will be looking to extend that after Tshimanga, who scored 42 goals in 25 games for the Dons’ under-18s side last season, had made such a prolific start.

He was hauled down in the area leading to a third goal from the penalty spot as the Steelmen beat Gloucester City 3-1 in their first home game and hit a hat-trick in last Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Hednesford Town, their only other game at Steel Park so far this term.

If Avenue’s defence, marshalled by skipper Simon Ainge, manage to shackle Tshimanga, it may not be enough as he has been amply assisted by Ashley Sammons as Corby have averaged two and a half goals per game.

Sammons got both of the Steelmen’s goals at fellow newcomers Curzon Ashton on the opening day of the season, bagged a brace in the 2-2 draw at last season’s play-off finalists Chorley and was also on target against Gloucester.

Corby’s only scorer other than the prolific front two in their ten-goal haul was skipper Greg Mills from the penalty spot after Tshimanga’s trickery brought the foul against him by the beleaguered Tigers’ defence.

Bradford boss Martin Drury fears he is repeating himself as he keeps insisting their first elusive win is imminent.

Speaking before Wednesday night’s home defeat to promotion hopefuls AFC Fylde, the Avenue manager said: “Obviously there are a lot of new players at the club, but I think performances in general from the first game of pre-season up to now have improved as we have gone along.

“The players still believe it. I can see it in them and from the talks in the dressing room, but at this level of football you’ve got to be more ruthless in that final third.”

Avenue continued to create chances in midweek but agonisingly lost 2-1 to last season’s runners-up.

Ainge’s central defensive partner Adam Clayton was injured in the first half and is doubtful for tomorrow’s clash.

Clayton suffered a head wound after being caught by a stray arm and was substituted.

Tom Burgin came off the bench to make his Avenue debut, and the former Worksop Town defender could be in line for a start at Corby.
