Yorkshire Division Five: Wibsey 40 Thirsk 0

WIBSEY completed their league programme with a six-try home victory over bottom club Thirsk to climb into second place.

The Bradford club could still be promoted depending on what happens off the pitch but they could also be overtaken by third-placed Hornsea.

On a mudbath of a pitch at Northfield Road, the hosts led 19-0 at half-time thanks to tries by Mark Darragh, Alex Cerson and Chris Farley, James Sawyer adding two conversions.

And they added three converted tries in the second half via Farley, Kyle Carter and Adam Armitage, man of the match Sawyer taking his tally to 16 conversions from his last 18 attempts.

Farley was equal top try-scorer for the season for seven minutes until Carter scored.

Comedy moments were provided by Carter and CJ Vogel, who both blew tries by diving over the ball when it was beyond the line, and James Birkbeck, who pulled a calf muscle warming up.
