Yorkshire Division Five: Knaresborough 13 Wibsey 9

DESPITE having winger Bruce Mpofu sent from the field of play for wearing tights - he came on later tightless - Wibsey gave a whole-hearted display at Knaresborough.

"You could not fault any our lads' performances," said Wibsey's manager Steve Brooke, "but Knaresborough's defence in the last 20 minutes was magnificent as we were all over them."

The hosts went ahead 3-0 in the eighth minute, James Sawyer levelling in kind for Wibsey four minutes later before putting the visitors ahead with a second penalty in the 18th minute.

However, Knaresborough went ahead with a try in first-half injury time, only for Sawyer to land a third kick in the 50th minute, just after the North Yorkshire side had been reduced to 14 men due to a sin-binning.

Knaresborough got the match-winning try in the 67th minute and then mounted a superb rearguard action to keep the visitors out, allowing them only a losing bonus point.

No 8 Chris Vogel was again Wibsey's man of the match, closely followed by full back Elliott Gray, while Jimmy Rogers made several good runs after replacing Mpofu.

With promotion now out of the question, Wibsey are chasing third place, although they may give some of their fringe players an opportunity, as well as looking to next season.
