Yorkshire Division Two: Old Grovians 24 Ripon 17
OLD Grovians, on the back of a dominant display by their pack, have climbed to seventh in Yorkshire Division Two.
However, the hosts went 14-0 behind thanks to a combination of poor tackling and a slovenly kick-chase.
The home side got on the scoreboard, however, courtesy of a Nathan Barr penalty and he was able to convert a pushover try by No 8 Harry Hardy.
Trailing 14-10 at half-time, Grovians missed a golden chance to take the lead when they knocked on when driving a five-metre scrum forward.
No matter, however, as when Ripon got the put-in, they were driven off their own ball for Hardy to claim his second try, with Jason Wright converting as Barr was in the sin-bin for playing the ball on the floor.
Ripon levelled at 17-17 but the dominance for Old Grovians was sealed with another converted try.
Grovians'head coach Dan Nulty said: "Our scrum was dominant as we have a very big front five."
They are set to be without flanker Jack Hartley on Saturday at home to Old Crossleyans due to a delayed reaction to concussion.
